QUALITY FEATURES OF PAST ASSIGNMENTS

In this section, I have provided examples of past assignments that I have completed. These help to show the knowledge, training, and experience that I received from the horticulture department at Texas A&M University. Please take your time reading through my past assignments, and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

HORT 315: Issues in Hoticulture

This is a six chapter, twenty-four-page research essay that exhibits my writing style. Chapter one talks about my life in horticulture, and how I got onto this degree plan. The rest of the chapters all focus on the topic of the rise of the biotechnology industry. This research paper shows that I can and will dig for information when I need it. It also shows that I know how to properly cite sources, and use correct grammar and punctuation. In this paper, I also talk about the business and marketing principles of the biotechnology industry, while also showing that I know how to communicate effectively in writing.

HORT 419: Viticulture & Small Fruit Culture

This viticulture report shows that I can be very concise and to the point when needed. This research paper has every single aspect of how I would grow, produce, and harvest a particular wine grape variety, and it all is on just one single page.

RENR: G.I.S. Environmental Problem Solving

All the data and resources for this research paper were obtained by using the ArcGIS computer software. The scope of this project was with a declining number of monarch butterflies, it was up to me to find a suitable habitat for them to reproduce at during their migration. Through using the ArcGIS software, I was able to do extensive research enabling me to create many ArcMap's that finally fulfilled all the necessary requirements to make a suitable habitat for these butterflies. This project shows that I can do extensive research, and am sufficient in using the ArcGIS software.

HORT 326: Plant Propagation

This is a scientific research article written for the sole purpose of explaining a lab procedure conducted and showing and explaining the results. This lab research was worked on and finished by my group of three people. Although, the interpreted results and written report were all done individually. The style of this article is an SNA style report. This article supports the fact that I keep good data records, understand the scientific names of plants, and have the ability to collect, manage, analyze, and interpret data. Being a group project, this also backs the idea that I can work effectively in a group as well.

ENTO 201: General Entomology

This is a research paper on the praying mantis species. In this paper, I talk about the specific order and overall classification of the praying mantis. Stagmomantis sp. is the scientific name, while Mantodea is the order for this insect. My paper also goes on to talk about how beneficial these insects can be on a crop. They have the potential to do a great job in keeping pest numbers down around the plants without causing harm to the plants in any way.
